Denon Wants Your Whole Booth in One Box, Laptop and Lighting Rig Included

The PRIME 4 G2 pushes the standalone controller past playback into stems, live lighting and pressure-sensitive pads, chipping away at every reason to bring extra gear.

Pads That Do More Than Trigger

The centrepiece is a rethink of the performance pad. Denon is fitting 16 MPCe pads it bills as the first multi-zone pads in a standalone system, using 3D-sensing so a single pad can carry several jobs at once, Hot Cues, Stems, Rolls, FX and even lighting, within one zone. That velocity- and pressure-sensitive layer is the clearest sign of the unit's intent: to turn the surface into something closer to an instrument than a bank of buttons. Feeding it is an 8-core ARM processor with 4GB of RAM, which Denon claims quadruples the previous generation's muscle, the headroom needed for the two features that used to demand a computer.

Cutting the Laptop and the Light Tech

Those two features are where the "everything in one box" pitch gets real. Onboard stems rendering, with dedicated Instrumental and Acapella buttons plus Stem FX and Stem Level EQ, lets a DJ pull a track apart live with nothing plugged in behind them. And a built-in 3-pin DMX output, driven by SoundSwitch, means the unit can run a lighting rig directly, controlling colour, position, strobe and intensity straight from the MPCe pads, with Philips Hue and Nanoleaf fixtures supported. For a mobile or club DJ, that removes both the laptop and the separate lighting controller from the load-in.

Built to Sit at the Centre of Any Setup

The rest of the spec reinforces the same idea: this is meant to be the hub, not a component. Its OmniSource architecture switches freely between media on USB, SD or an optional internal SATA drive and software including Serato DJ Pro, Algoriddim djay and VirtualDJ (support flagged as coming soon), while built-in Wi-Fi pulls in streaming from Beatport, TIDAL, Apple Music, Amazon Music Unlimited and SoundCloud Go+. Add full-size 8-inch jog wheels with LED screens, a 10.1-inch multi-touch display, a deep FX arsenal and balanced XLR Main, Booth and Zone outputs, and the hardware is clearly pitched at running a room on its own. It's out now at $2,599 / €2,699.99 / £2,299.99 through authorised dealers.
